project: Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn

owner: Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Society

location: Dallas, Texas

architect: Milton Powell & Partners

Overview

Serving as one of the highlights at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, the new Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn serves as host for symphonies and other musical performances within the park.

Design Charge

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens desired to have a professional concert stage and lawn to showcase its annual summer concert series as well as provide a beautiful performance location for other events as well. Not being in the concert production business, the Arboretum wished to have the infrastructure in place to accommodate temporary lighting, sound, and rigging systems to be brought into the venue for each performance. Encore Design Group provided general space planning and sightline studies for the stage and lawn as well as designed various underground infrastructure systems for technical performance systems.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure systems include underground conduit for the passing of temporary lighting and sound circuits, large power disconnects for sound and lighting, and underground piers to accommodate the weight of various stage and lighting truss systems.
