project: John Paul High School

location: Plano, Texas

architect: Page Southerland Page

Overview

This massive coeducational Catholic college preparatory high school is over 317,000 square feet in size and was created from an existing major technologies manufacturer headquarters building. Encore Design Group provided room acoustics design, performance lighting system design, and sound system design, and video projection ` system design for many spaces in the school including the Dining Theatre, Gymnasiums, Lecture Halls, Chapel, Band Room, Orchestra Room, Choir Room, Dance Studio, and Recording Studios.

Among all of the spaces that Encore provided services, special attention was given to the gymnasium. The school president felt it absolutely critical that the space could be used not only for sporting events, but also be used for lectures and performances as well. Toward this goal, great detail to room acoustics was provided including special acoustical wall construction and treatments on upper walls and ceiling. A high-performance, full range sound system was provided. It features a main loudspeaker cluster at one end of the room to cover a court-seated audience and distributed loudspeakers to cover the seating risers.
